To mark the 37th edition of Mental Health Awareness Weeks, themed “For our mental health, let’s open ourselves to the arts”, the exhibition “Par où ça passe” brings together works by many different hands at the Centre d’Art La Falaise:
○ Works by the Patients/Artists currently involved in the Atelier d’Art at the Établissement de Psychiatrie du Var;
○ Earlier works drawn from the Atelier’s archives;
○ Works by the professional artists who work with these patients;
○ Works by contemporary artists who work, or have worked, with us on various shared cultural projects;
○ Further works from the Centre d’Art La Falaise collection complete the exhibition.
Some of the Patients/Artists have taken part in the Atelier d’Art since it was founded in 1987. Across the institution’s 140-year history, four decades of engagement with art have helped shape the relationship between psychiatry and artistic expression.
With this history in mind, and beyond the connections between art and care, the exhibition design highlights the links between creation, lineage and transmission. It invites us to look afresh at creative work described as “on the margins”, challenging our assumptions and opening up new avenues for reflection.
