Les Toiles du Sud 2026: 20 Years of Open-Air Cinema in Cotignac
Every summer, the Théâtre du Rocher in Cotignac is transformed into an open-air cinema. From 17 July to 18 August 2026, Les Toiles du Sud invites audiences to experience cinema in a truly unique setting, beneath the stars and at the foot of the majestic tufa cliff overlooking the village. Marking its 20th edition, the festival presents 12 films, including seven screened at the Festival de Cannes, three highly anticipated preview screenings, two film concerts and four special screenings held at iconic venues across the Var hinterland.
For the past 20 years, Les Toiles du Sud has brought film lovers together in a spectacular natural setting, where the illuminated tufa cliff becomes an extension of the big screen. Over the years, the festival has established itself as one of the must-attend cultural events of the summer in Provence Verte.
This year’s edition once again shines a spotlight on the Festival de Cannes, with several films from the Official Selection. Highlights include Garance, presented in the Official Competition, Fjord, winner of the 2026 Palme d’Or, Le Corset and Quelques mots d’amour, both selected for the Un Certain Regard section, as well as Les Matins merveilleux, screened in the Special Screenings section. The programme also features Les Caprices de l’Enfant Roi, presented this year as part of the Festival de Cannes’s Cinéma de la Plage.
The festival will also feature two events celebrating the connection between music and cinema. The Four Seasons Concert, performed by the Ludovic Michel Trio, will precede the screening of Vivaldi et moi, while the vocal ensemble Les Voix Animées will accompany two Charlie Chaplin short films live during a unique film concert.
Alongside the screenings at the Théâtre du Rocher, Les Toiles du Sud also extends to several iconic venues across the Var hinterland. Until 4 September, four special screenings will take place in exceptional locations: the Thoronet Abbey with Conclave, the Le Val Garden Theatre with Arco, the sculpture garden of Châteauvert with Le Bleu du Caftan, and Lou Calen, a festival partner, presenting a screening of Monty Python: The Meaning of Life at the Théâtre du Rocher in Cotignac.
Exhibition “On-Set Photography”: Nathalie Eno Behind the Scenes of Cinema
To mark the 20th anniversary of Les Toiles du Sud, cinema also comes to the walls of Lou Calen. First presented this spring at the Centre d’Art La Falaise, Nathalie Eno’s exhibition continues throughout the summer at the Bistrot and O’Fadoli.
A former assistant to Dominique Issermann, whose work has appeared in Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Première, Nathalie Eno has worked on more than 80 film productions as a stills photographer. Her photographs capture those fleeting moments when actors step out of themselves and fully inhabit their characters, offering a rare glimpse behind the scenes of cinema.
