Barolo will be a star guest at the Food + Wine pairing dinner at the Bistrot restaurant on Friday 28th November
A powerful and complex wine, Barolo will be the central theme of a dinner at the Bistrot restaurant, during a fun collaboration between two historic Piedmontese establishments: the Felicin restaurant, with Chef Nino at the helm, and the Manzone estate, represented by oenologist and wine connaisseur Mauro Manzone.
Together, they will craft a dialogue between Piedmontese cuisine and the great wines of the Langhe, the hilly region that has produced some of Italy’s most illustrious wines. At the end of the meal, a sheep’s milk cheeses sourced from Murazzano will perfectly complement these exceptional food and wine pairings.
Felicin: A Century of Hospitality in Monforte d’Alba
The story of the Felicin restaurant began in 1923 in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Piedmont hills. Its founder, Felice “Felicin”, the son of sharecroppers with a passion for cooking, opened a small restaurant for passing travellers with his wife, Dina. Their warm welcome and generous portions quickly earned the restaurant a strong reputation. In 1927, they moved location to the village square, where a true family tradition was born within their new restaurant, and passed down from generation to generation. Over the course of the century, each family member has added their own touch: Giorgio brought international renown to Langhe cuisine; his wife, Rosina, brought elegance and refinement to the dining room with the charm of Italian service; and Nino and Silvia, who now run the restaurant, continue this art of hospitality with sincerity and true style. In their kitchen, recipes inherited from Felice mingle with the creativity of a chef attached to his terroir, where simplicity becomes an art, and each dish tells a familiar story.

Manzone: Barolo Excellence for Five Generations
Between Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba, the Manzone estate’s vineyards stretch across sun-drenched slopes, passed down from father to son for over a century. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, the estate has enjoyed five generations driven by the same conviction: wine is a living heritage, the fruit of time, hard work, and the land. Today, Giovanni and Rita Manzone, along with their children Mauro, Mirella, and Patrizia, perpetuate this tradition with humility and passion. Giovanni tends the vines, Mauro crafts the wines with the precision of a goldsmith, Mirella welcomes visitors, and Patrizia, now returning home from a long career, embodies the memory and values of the estate. Faithful to artisanal viticulture, and respectful of the rhythm of nature, this family favours ancient methods – indigenous yeasts, long macerations and aging in large barrels, allowing the Nebbiolo to fully express itself, with finesse, structure and durability.
Murazzano: A Pastoral Treasure of the Langhe
In the small village of Murazzano, nestled in the heart of the Alta Langhe pastures, the Chiesa family perpetuates an ancient pastoral tradition, so typical of Piedmont. It is here that Murazzano PDO is made, a sheep’s milk cheese with a creamy texture, subtle aromas, and slightly spicy notes. In 2002, Enrica and Giuseppe founded their artisanal cheese dairy to showcase this local heritage. Today, with Manuela, Michela, and Grandma Nadia (the guardian of the family recipes) they continue the traditional and honorable techniques that respect the natural rhythm of the milk, preserving its true purity. Each Tuma, each Robiola, bears witness to the union of a well-preserved region and the commitment of a family that has made cheese its living legacy.
